About Poopieman Voodoo

I stumbled onto Poopieman Voodoo on a friend’s recommendation, and honestly, it’s one of those delightfully weird indie titles that you can’t stop thinking about. You play as Poopieman, a rather unfortunate chap who accidentally awakens an ancient voodoo spirit by sliding on a banana peel (yes, really). From there, you’re thrust into a quirky world where you’ve got to collect mystical talismans, avoid hordes of cursed chickens, and piece together the mystery of why your sneakers keep glowing at midnight.

The controls are surprisingly smooth for a game that leans into slapstick humor. You dash, dodge, and sling magical sludge at enemies, upgrading your attack with new “spirit-infused” abilities. There’s an inventory screen that feels handcrafted, with each item looking like somebody doodled it in the margins of their notebook. My favorite upgrade was the “Stink Bomb,” which lets you temporarily blind foes in a cloud of green gas—perfect for those tight boss fights when you need a quick breather.

Visually, Poopieman Voodoo embraces a playful, almost childlike aesthetic. The levels are bright and bold, with purples and greens splashed everywhere to underline that voodoo vibe. Background NPCs chatter in goofy gibberish that, unbelievably, you start to decode after a while—like learning a new dialect of cartoon characters. Sound design is equally on point, with creaky wooden doors, distant tribal drums, and Poopieman’s own startled yelps every time you fall into a pit of goo.

What really sells the game, though, is its sense of humor. The writing never takes itself too seriously—chatty spirits pop up to crack jokes, and the dialogue is sprinkled with puns that made me giggle out loud on my commute. It’s one of those charmingly low-key experiences you can breeze through in an afternoon, yet it sticks with you thanks to its offbeat personality. If you’re looking for a short, whimsical adventure that doesn’t mind being a little ridiculous, Poopieman Voodoo is worth a shot.
