Super Mario 64 – Explore Peach’s Castle and Hunt for Power Stars
Super Mario 64 takes Mario into a large 3D adventure filled with open areas, hidden paths, strange creatures, puzzles, and platforming challenges. Mario arrives at Princess Peach’s castle after receiving an invitation from her. Things quickly look wrong. Bowser has taken control of the castle and hidden its Power Stars inside magical worlds. Mario needs to recover those stars and open the way to Bowser.
The castle acts as the main area of the game. Many rooms contain paintings that work as entrances to different worlds. Mario can jump straight into a painting and appear inside a new course.
Each World Has Its Own Challenges
Super Mario 64 contains 15 main courses along with several smaller areas. Each main course gives Mario different missions to complete. One mission may ask him to climb a mountain. Another can involve racing a character, defeating a boss, finding hidden objects, or collecting eight red coins.
The levels give players plenty of freedom. Mario can explore instead of following one narrow road from start to finish.
Bob-omb Battlefield gives Mario hills, bridges, cannons, enemies, and a large mountain to explore. Other stages take him underwater, across snowy slopes, through deserts, inside haunted areas, and over dangerous lava.
Completing missions earns Power Stars. These stars open locked doors inside Peach’s castle. More areas become available as Mario collects more of them.
There are 120 Power Stars to find in total. Players do not need every star to reach the final battle, so there is room to choose which challenges they want to complete.
Mario Has Plenty of Moves
Movement plays a huge role in Super Mario 64. Mario can run, jump, swim, crawl, punch, kick, climb, and perform several special jumps.
A normal jump handles small gaps. The long jump helps Mario cross wider spaces. He can also perform a triple jump after building enough speed. Backflips and side jumps help him reach higher platforms.
The ground pound lets Mario slam down from the air. This move can defeat some enemies, press switches, and interact with objects in the levels.
Learning these moves makes exploration easier. Some stars sit in places that look difficult to reach until you understand how Mario’s different jumps work.
Special Caps Give Mario New Abilities
Mario can also find special caps that change what he can do.
The Wing Cap lets him fly through the air. The Metal Cap turns Mario into heavy metal and lets him handle situations that normal Mario cannot. The Vanish Cap allows him to pass through certain barriers.
These abilities connect with some of the game’s puzzles. A star may require more than reaching the right location. Mario may first need to unlock a cap and then use it in the correct part of a course.
Coins, Secrets, and Hidden Stars
Coins help Mario during his adventure. Collecting them can restore lost health. Yellow coins appear throughout the levels, while red coins often form part of a special challenge.
Collecting 100 coins inside a main course can also reward Mario with another Power Star. This encourages players to explore parts of a stage that they might normally ignore.
The castle itself contains secrets too. Not every adventure starts by jumping into an obvious painting. Hidden rooms and unusual entrances can lead to extra challenges.
Super Mario 64 gives players a large amount of freedom for a platform game. You can search for Power Stars, practice Mario’s different jumps, explore strange locations, or return to earlier stages to hunt for secrets you missed. The simple goal of rescuing Princess Peach grows into a much larger adventure as more doors inside the castle begin to open.
