About Super Adventure Pals
I stumbled onto Super Adventure Pals one afternoon when I was in the mood for something retro but with a modern twist, and I have to say, it totally delivered. You play as Logan, a little kid who binds his fate to a trusty flying pony after an epic mix-up, and before you know it you’re on a quest to rescue princesses, conquer bizarre lands and take down the tyrannical Cinnamon King. The storyline is the perfect balance of goofy and heroic—think classic Saturday-morning cartoon energy mixed with pixel-art charm.
What really grabbed me was how every level feels like its own mini-adventure. One minute you’re sneaking through snowy caves filled with slippery ice and gnarly yetis, the next you’re braving volcanic platforms guarded by fire spitting dragons. The controls are surprisingly tight for an indie platformer, and the difficulty curve is fair—enough of a challenge to keep your heart racing, but never so harsh that you want to toss your controller out the window.
Beyond running and jumping you can pick up a handful of weapons, from blunt instruments to projectiles, all of which you can swap on the fly. Learning how each weapon handles is part of the fun, especially when you’re in the heat of a boss battle and need to think fast. The audio kicks things up another notch, with chiptune tracks that get you humming along as you “whoop!” your way through waves of comically evil goons.
All in all, Super Adventure Pals is a delightful mash-up of humor, challenge and nostalgic design. It may look like a simple throwback at first glance, but it’s the kind of game that reminds you how satisfying pixel-perfect platforming can be—especially when you’ve got a flying pony pal by your side.
