One Puppet, One Opponent, One Puck
Puppet Hockey is an arcade-style ice hockey game where cartoon hockey players compete in quick one-on-one matches. Instead of controlling a full team with several skaters, you control one large-headed puppet on a small ice rink. Your opponent controls another puppet at the opposite end.
Before a match starts, you choose a national team. The selection includes well-known hockey nations and several other countries. Your puppet then enters the rink wearing the colors of the chosen team.
The basic goal follows normal hockey rules. Hit the puck into the opponent’s net while protecting your own goal.
Move, Jump, and Take Your Shot
The small rink keeps both players close to the puck. You move left and right to chase it or return toward your own net. Your puppet can also jump, which helps when the puck travels through the air.
A separate shot control swings the hockey stick. Timing matters because the stick needs to connect with the puck at the correct moment. Hitting too early or too late can send the puck in an unwanted direction or leave it sitting near your goal.
Jumping adds another useful choice. A high puck may travel over your stick, but a jump can put your puppet in its path. You can use the same move to block shots close to the goal.
Short Matches Keep the Score Moving
A Puppet Hockey match lasts 60 seconds. You need to score more goals than the opponent before the timer reaches zero.
The short time limit makes every goal important. Falling behind does not leave much time for slow play. You need to move back into position quickly after each attack.
Defense can matter as much as shooting. Moving too far toward the opponent’s net leaves your own goal open. Staying too close to your goal gives the other puppet more control of the puck. Finding the right position helps you switch between attacking and defending.
Some versions of the Puppet Hockey series also include bonuses and unusual effects that can change how a match plays. These include speed-related bonuses and items that interfere with an opponent.
The cartoon puppet design keeps the matches light and easy to follow. The controls do not require a long learning period, but scoring consistently still takes practice.
Puppet Hockey works because it reduces ice hockey to a few important actions. Chase the puck, protect the goal, jump when needed, and time each shot. The small rink and short matches keep the action moving until the final seconds.
