Get to Know About Lab

Have you tried diving into Lab yet? It’s this quirky VR playground set in the Aperture Science world, and from the moment you slip on the headset, you’re whisked away into a series of bite-sized experiments. I remember the first time I picked up that virtual slingshot and flung little potato heads at targets—there’s something oddly satisfying about knocking over a stack of blocks only inches from your face. It feels like being a kid again, except your toys are high-tech and there’s a talking robot giving you cheeky commentary.

One of my favorite corners of Lab is the robot repair challenge. You’re handed a tiny droid with a personality disorder (in the most endearing way), and you get to “boop” its circuits back into place. There’s a surprising amount of charm in coaxing this little guy back to life, and every successful beep and whirr makes you feel like a bonafide scientist. Plus, it’s a neat little tutorial on basic VR controls without ever feeling like homework.

If you’re more into exploration, the underworld exploration module is where it’s at. You hop into a submersible and drift through an alien ocean filled with bioluminescent fish and sunken alien wreckage. It’s almost serene—like ocean diving—and then suddenly you spark a machine that unleashes a swarm of electric jellyfish. That mix of calm and mayhem is what gives Lab such a playful edge; it’s never one note for too long.

What really gets me is how approachable and well-paced everything feels. You can jump in for five minutes and shoot some arrows in the bow range, or settle down for a longer session tinkering with physics gadgets in the central hub. It’s not about beating a big high score or grinding out levels—it’s a collection of fun little moments that remind you why VR can be such a thrill. Whenever I need a quick dose of virtual fun, Lab is the first thing I reach for.
