Move Two Full Decks onto Eight Foundations
Forty Thieves Solitaire is a difficult card game played with two standard decks. Forty cards begin face up in ten tableau columns, with four cards in each column. The remaining cards form the stock. Eight empty foundation piles wait above the tableau. Your goal is to move all 104 cards onto those foundations.
Each foundation begins with an ace and builds upward by suit until it reaches a king. Since the game uses two decks, every suit needs to be completed twice.
Build Down in the Same Suit
Cards in the tableau build downward by suit. A six of spades can move onto a seven of spades. It cannot move onto a seven of hearts or clubs. Only the top card of each column remains available, and standard rules allow one card to move at a time. Any available single card may enter an empty tableau column.
This strict rule makes Forty Thieves Solitaire harder than many familiar solitaire games. A useful card may remain buried under several others. Moving those blocking cards requires open columns and careful planning.
Use the Stock Carefully
When the tableau offers no useful move, draw one card from the stock onto the waste pile. The top waste card can move to a foundation or a legal tableau position. Standard play gives only one journey through the stock, with no second deal.
Do not draw too quickly. A waste card may fit the tableau now but become blocked after another card lands on top of it. Check every visible move before taking the next card.
Open Columns and Free Aces
Finding the aces early helps the foundations begin growing. Empty columns also provide valuable working space. They let you move a blocking card away and uncover something useful beneath it.
Kings can create trouble when they remain buried deep inside a column because no higher card can accept them. Moving a king into an empty space may free several useful cards below it.
Forty Thieves Solitaire rewards patience and long planning. A move that looks helpful now may block the only useful card later. Players need to protect empty spaces, build foundations whenever safe, and treat every stock card as a limited chance.
