Learn About the Game Dragon Ball Z Devolution
I still chuckle when I think back to my first run in Devolution. It felt like stumbling onto a secret tribute to Budokai 2 that just happened to play almost perfectly, with all the flash and punch of the original. You pick your favorite fighter—Goku blasting off into Super Saiyan, Vegeta gritting his teeth—and suddenly you’re duking it out in classic Dragon Ball Z arenas. It nails that satisfying whiff and counter rhythm, the sort that makes you grin when you pull off a flawless combo.
What really sold me was how faithfully it recreated those signature transformations and dramatic finishers. Energy clashes light up the sky, beams spiral across the stage, and the way your health bar plummets after a charged Kamehameha still gives you that mini heart attack. The devs even managed to slip in a handful of bonus characters and alternate costumes, which felt like a little gift for us longtime fans. Controls are tight, too—simple enough that you can jump in immediately but deep enough to notice the nuances once you start digging into link combos.
Although it never reached the kind of polish you’d see in an official release, the passion behind every punch is impossible to miss. I’ve lost count of the evenings spent duking it out with buddies over local matches, just soaking up that Dragon Ball energy. Even after it got pulled offline, a few spirited corners of the internet still buzz with tales of the best builds and custom tweaks. In a way, its unfinished status only adds to the mystique—like finding a hidden chapter in your favorite manga.
