Get to Know About Bubsy 2 (Sega Genesis)

I still remember popping this one into my console as a kid and instantly being charmed by Bubsy’s goofy grin and the catchy opening tune. Right away you’re tossed into a brightly colored world filled with platforms, springs, and enemies that seem to pop out of nowhere. The controls feel snappy; you can sprint, glide, and pounce your way through levels that demand quick reflexes more than anything else. Collecting yarn balls to boost your life count feels oddly satisfying, and there’s something comforting about replaying a tricky section until you finally nail the timing.

What really stuck with me was the game’s sense of humor. Bubsy’s quips—though cheesy—add character to moments that might otherwise be frustrating. Die too many times in a row and you’re greeted with a snide remark that somehow makes you want to dive back in rather than quit. The level designs strike a decent balance between challenge and exploration, with hidden areas begging to be discovered. You’ll face everything from buzzing sawblades to oddly dressed robots, and each new obstacle feels like an invitation to sharpen your skills.

It’s by no means a flawless experience—some of the jumps can be a bit precise, and you’ll sometimes curse the way an enemy appears out of thin air—but there’s a genuine charm here that rescues it from pure frustration. If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted platformer with a character who never takes himself too seriously, this installment offers a surprisingly replayable ride. Even after all these years, hearing that theme music still puts a smile on my face.
