About Batman Returns (SNES)

I still remember rushing through the streets of Gotham, jumping off rooftops and gliding between lampposts to stop Penguin’s latest scheme. From the moment you jump into Batman’s trench coat you can practically hear Danny Elfman’s score underscoring every punch and kick. The visuals lean into that moody, gothic vibe you loved in the movie, so when the Bat-Signal lights up the night sky on-screen, it really feels like you’re part of Tim Burton’s world.

The combat is satisfying, too—block an enemy attack, duck under a swinging hook, then counter with a batarang before pinning a goon to the wall. You’ve got access to all your favorite gadgets, and there’s a co-op option that lets someone else slip into Robin’s boots if you’d rather team up than go it alone. The levels have just enough variety to keep you on your toes, whether you’re sneaking through museum exhibits or shutting down Penguin’s poisonous traps in the sewers.

What really sticks with me is how unforgiving some of the later stages can be—you’ll learn to time every throw and dodge by necessity, but when you finally beat that boss, it’s a rush. Even the shorter levels are packed with hidden bonuses if you explore every corner. It might not hold your hand, but that grit is part of the charm, and every victory feels well-earned.
