The engine meter is one of the most important parts of the screen.

Once the car begins moving, the needle climbs through the rev range. Shift when it enters the green area to keep strong acceleration.
Changing gears too early slows your progress. Waiting until the engine has gone too far beyond the ideal range can also cost valuable time.

Nitro gives you another way to increase speed.

Winning races gives you money and points that can be spent in the garage.
You can buy new vehicles or improve a car that you already own.
Engine upgrades provide more power. Better tires help the car put that power onto the road. Nitro upgrades improve your extra burst of speed.
