Get to Know About Wing Men

I recently picked up Wing Men for a weekend game night, and it really surprised me with how immersive and fast-paced it feels. You and a couple of friends each take on the role of World War II fighter pilots, complete with customizable planes and unique pilot abilities. The game board lays out aerial zones, and each turn you’re deciding whether to bank left, dive to gain speed, or line up for that perfect head-on pass. It’s that balance between aggression and cunning maneuvers that keeps everyone on their toes.

What I love most is how the card-driven combat blends with a bit of dice luck. You have maneuver cards to plot your moves secretly, then reveal simultaneously, which adds this tense guessing game: will you outfox your opponent or end up in a tailspin? When you’re in firing range, you roll attack dice against the plane’s defensive stats, and of course, critical hits feel like game-changers. There’s also a neat “wingman” mechanic where you can tag-team attacks and cover each other’s six, making teamwork almost as important as raw firepower.

Between skirmish setups and a handful of challenging campaign scenarios, Wing Men never feels stale. You’ll tweak your plane loadouts to match your favorite playstyle—more armor for head-on buffs or extra speed for hit-and-run tactics. By the end of the night, everyone’s swapping stories about that one “almost escaped” dogfight, and I always leave itching to play another round. If you’re into tactical, social games with just the right dash of chaos, this one’s a keeper.
